Apple Not to Have Enough iPads After All?

Large Number of iPad Pre-orders Means You Might Not Get Yours on April 3

We kept talking about the actual number of available iPad units at launch in the past weeks and we kept getting mixed news and reports regarding the number of units Apple will be able to ship in March and April. However we haven’t gotten any official news that would either confirm or dismiss the rumors. What came instead was the official pre-order dates and ship dates and everyone assumed that iPad production is on schedule.

Today we hear more unconfirmed news and this time we’re talking about the actual number of iPad pre-orders. Although limited to two iPad units per person, it looks like iPad pre-sales are already a success. According to various sources Apple managed to already sell lots of iPads.

It seems that customers that wanted to change their pre-order status from home delivery to in-store pickup were not given a positive solution. Those customers were told to cancel current pre-orders and to complete a new in-store pickup order. But that will not guarantee them that an iPad will be waiting neatly in an Apple store as the company has been “overwhelemed” with iPad orders so far.

Does that mean that we’re looking at production problems again? Should we understand that Apple will not have as many iPads at hand on April 3 as it would have wanted?

Why would one want to change the delivery order from home shipping to in-store pick up? Well in some areas the iPad customers won’t receive the Apple iPad on April 3 since it’s a Saturday and they will have to wait until Monday, April 5, to get it. I guess that some folks have decided to pick the iPad in the closest Apple store instead and that’s what caused the whole commotion. Or, you know, you could wait two more days for the iPad to arrive! After all you did wait a lot for it already!

Rumors say that Apple has sold 50,000 iPad units in the first two hours which, although not confirmed yet, sounds pretty plausible. And probably the company will sell even more devices by April 3 as the iPad will turn out to be one of the hottest, most buzzed about devices of 2010. Even if it still lacks lots of features that we would have wanted to have in the first place…
