PlayStation Move Motion Controller Unveiled [Sony Unveils Wii-like Motion Controller Add-On For PlayStation 3, Bundles Will Cost Less Than $100]
Rumors about Sony’s PlayStation motion controller add-on have been circulating all day but they culminated at Sony’s press conference at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco today. We know now that the motion controlling scheme is called “PlayStation Move” and that it’ll have Wii-mote like motion control with a lot of game support coming up.

Sony says the PlayStation Move is “fast, precise and accurate”. The main controller kind of resembles a black Wiimote with a ball on top, while it will have an add-on nunchuck. Judging from the opinions of those who saw the demo, the PlayStation Move controller measures exact movements, unlike the inaccurate gesture recognition of the Wii.
Sony says the Move can recognize both “fast and subtle” movements. They have a bunch of games coming out, including sports games that support tennis, golf, etc. Shooters where shown with the Move and it’s nunchuk add-on being used to control the rifle. Some big name games will also have support for the Move, too.
Take-Two’s MLB 2k10 baseball game will have support for the Move patched in. Sony’s own published titles, SOCOM 4 and the highly anticipated God of War 3 will also have support for the PlayStation Move. Other publishers that have vowed support for the PlayStation Move include Activision, Capcom, WB Games, Namco Bandai, Square Enix, Ubisoft, EA, Disney, Konami Sega, Crave and Tecmo Koei.
We reported some time ago that rumor had it that Microsoft would be selling Project Natal units for an incredibly low (sub-$100) price in order to get a high install base and Sony will apparently follow the same strategy. They’ll be selling the PlayStation Move bundled with certain new PlayStation 3 packs but they’ll also be selling in in a bundle with a PlayStation Eye came for less than $100.
Sony only said the PlayStation Move will be coming ‘later this year’. We expect it to launch in the Holiday season to go head-to-head with Microsoft’s Project Natal motion tech.
