Twitter Keen to Fight Phishing Scams & Spam [Twitter Steps Up to Protect Their Users, Routing Links Through Them]
One of the largest social networking website that allows users to share 140 words updates with their friends and family, Twitter is now promising tightened rules against phishing scams and spam. While it’s a concept more or less built around shortened links, as of late, the service has been flooded with Direct Messages promoting all sorts of iPad scams or malware — but we’re being assured that soon that will be history.

Twitter’s trust and safety team boss Del Harvey has officially announced on the company’s blog that they’re working on a new new link-screening tool that will automatically detect bad links and spam, and remove them. “By routing all links submitted through this new service, we can detect, intercept and prevent the spread of bad links across all of Twitter. Even if a bad link is already sent out in an email notification,” he added.
Apparently the new link-screening service will shorten all links in a Direct Messages (attacks occur primarily on Direct Messages and email notifications) using the company’s dedicated twt.tl URL shortener.
We have our fingers crossed that this time Twitter will nail spam and phishing, the right way.
