Sony Ericsson Vivaz Full Hands-On Review Pending
Following on from gaining a hands on with the Xperia X10, X10 mini, Vivaz and Vivaz Pro at Sony Ericsson’s MWC UK event last month – you can read our initial impressions of the X10, which we’ll also be reviewing later, here (though you’ll need to set some time aside to read it) – we’ve now just received the Vivaz 8.1MP camera touting smartphone here at TFTS HQ for review purposes.

Capable of recording 720p HD video footage and coming with a near HD 3.2” touchscreen display (640 x 360 pixels), the YouTube friendly Vivaz, which sports a curvaceous design than is ‘designed to mirror the shape of the human body’ through its ‘human curvature’, certainly impressed us from an aesthetic standpoint when we gained a brief hands on with it last month – it was a brief hands on as we were rather more interested in spending quality time with the X10 – but just how will it fair in day to day use in the spotlight of our finely honed, critical eye?

If you’re thinking of getting a Vivaz you may want to hold back until you’ve read our review as (for those that don’t already know) our reviews leave no stones unturned and we’re known for telling it like it is.
Do you have any questions concerning the Vivaz? Is there anything you’d specifically like us to cover in our review? Drop us a comment via the comment box at the bottom of this post and let us know and we’ll do our utmost to ‘put you in the know’.

Hello :)
I read your initial impression of the X10, and I was impressed by the amount of detail and thoroughness you put into examining the phone. I’m seriously considering buying the Vivaz however, so I’m looking forward to your review of that. The main things I’m concerned about would be:
1. Responsiveness – I like the fact that resistive screens can have handwriting recognition, and I have heard that the screen on the Vivaz is supposedly very sensitive. If you could test that out for us a little bit, it’d be great.
2. Speed – How fast is the processor? I realize it’s not a Snapdragon, but the clock speed seems to be pretty decent. Does the phone ever lag? Are things fluid and fast?
3. If you happen to have a black unit – is the back incredibly susceptible to fingerprints? (I’m deciding between the black and silver versions currently).
I think that’s about it.. I’ll be looking forward to your review! :)
Hi Shin,
Many thanks for the kind feedback concerning my X10 heads on – much appreciated.
I’ll happily sort all that for you, no worries, however I’ve been passed the silver version so cannot get back to you concerning the fingerprints issue (on the black model) – but the rest I’ll ensure I cover.
Hi Andrew,
Just read your SE X10 review and was very plaesed to see there’s a competitor to the iphone. I’m wondering if the Vivaz will also reach that mark? I loved my SE W810i and changed to a N96, but missed the sony ericsson way of life. little things like the list of your last few txt recipients, so you didnt have to go searching thru the phonebook.
I’d like to know if the the Vivaz is as good as the X10/iphone. Also are the apps for the X10 and Vivaz going to be as good as Apple’s?
Thanx for the great reviews, good to know what these handsets are going to be like before spending on them.
Gareth
@Gareth, I’m working through the review of the Vivaz now but I can say it isn’t in the same league as either the iPhone or the X10 – nor is it designed to be. So if you are expecting the Vivaz to give either a run for their money you’ll need to re-address your expectations.
Quite how the Vivaz performs in its own right you’ll be finding out real soon once I get my review written up. :-)
