Sony to Make iPad Competitor and iPhone-like Smartphone? [Sony Is Rumored to Launch New Gaming-based Handset & PlayStation Netbook in March 2010; We Are Rumored to Get Excited]
One of the most interesting rumors we’ve heard in a while concerns Sony and its future plans in the mobile world. The manufacturer is said to be working on some new projects which include a gaming-based phone and a netbook/eBook reader/PSP hybrid device, both ready to fight against Apple’s similar creations, the iPhone and the iPad. And both ready to run PlayStation games on a new mobile platform.

This whole thing comes as a surprising shock especially since The Wall Street Journal is reporting that these hot new devices are coming at some point in March 2010.
Well it’s March already and we knew we were expecting the Wi-Fi iPad to arrive by the end of the month. But where have these Sony rumored devices been hiding? How and why has Sony been able to neutralize any potential leaks and rumors that would have hinted plans about such gadgets in the past?
We knew the iPad was coming long before this January despite Cupertino’s paranoid policy about disclosing information about upcoming devices prior to their actual launch. But Sony has apparently been able to fly under the radar and make these new iPhone and iPad competitors.
To be honest, a PSP Phone has been rumored in the previous years but if I recall correctly Sony was not willing to share with Sony Ericsson some of its proprietary gaming-related technology. Thus the project never took off, according to rumors of course, and we all witnessed how the iPhone and later the iPod touch became popular gaming devices.
Now Sony will work with Sony Ericsson in order to develop the new smartphone and we’re really excited to see what these two companies can come up with. A Sony tablet is also in the works but we have no specifics on it yet so we’ll have to make do with the new gaming smartphone and netbooks that are about to be released this month. Anyone equally anxious to see them in action?
