Averatec N1200 Netbook To Be Lightest Yet?

Averatec N1200 10-Inch Netbook Weighs Just 2.2 Pounds

Averatec by Trigem has revealed a new netbook that could be the world’s lightest 10-inch netbook yet.  The Averatec N1200 netbook will weigh just 2.2 pounds, measuring in at just under an inch thick.

Claims of “lightest yet” don’t last long in the netbook world, but as the demand for new netbooks continues to cool, these announcements tend to hold value for a bit longer.  The new Averatec N1200 netbook achieves these claims by using slimmer, lithium polymer batteries as well as 7mm hard drives.  Those slim portions come with a loss of battery life, however, as when most netbooks are fighting into the 10+ hour range, the Averatec N1200 only serves three hours per charge on a standard battery.  There is a larger battery option on the top model N1200, but a larger battery would kill the whole 2.2 pound claim, wouldn’t it?

The Averatec N1200 will be available in three options.  All three share an Intel1.66GHz Atom processor, 1GB RAM, a 1.3MP camera and standard WiFi connectivity.  The base unit will be sold for $330, including Windows XP and and a 160GB HDD.  The medium-grade version adds Windows 7 for a bump in price to $350, and the top-of-the-line model gets a 250GB HDD as well as the Windows 7 OS for a total price of $380.  The Averatec N1200 netbooks will begin shipping later this month.
