Western Digital My Passport Studio HDDs for Mac Get Official with E-Ink on Top [Westerd Digital Adds E-Ink Display to Its My Passport Studio HDD Mac Line]
Last year in October I showed you a bunch of new Western Digital My Book Elite and Studio external HDDs that happened to come with E-label screens on top. Well it looks like the company likes that thin layer of E-ink on top of its storage devices and it has therefore officially introduced the new My Passport Studio portable hard drives for Macs that also employ such E-ink displays.

The new My Passport Studio line for Macs is supposed to “help creative professional organize their storage” thanks to those E-label smart displays. Like I said last year, I can’t really imagine a situation in which I’d absolutely need to figure out how much available storage space I have left on my portable HDD.
However if that’s a feature you’re looking for then you should get ready to purchase one of Western Digitals’s brand new My Passport Studio external HDD. You can choose from three flavors, 320GB, 500GB and 640GB which cost $149.99, $179.99 and $199.99, respectively.
The new hard drives come with a “sleek and stylish design”, FireWire 800 interface, USB 2.0 support, Apple TimeMachine support, automatic and continuous backup thanks to WD SmartWare software, 256-bit hardware-based encryption, and, naturally the customizable external E-ink display.
The E-label can show you the capacity status, a personalized label and it will be visible even when there’s no power source available for the hard drive.
Dale Pistilli, vice president of marketing of WD’s Branded Products group said about the new E-label feature:
Many of our customers store their content on multiple external drives, making it difficult to know what content is on each drive. The e-label smart display is an elegant and practical solution for organizing and keeping track of one’s digital life and work. WD SmartWare software makes it easy for users to protect their valuable content with automatic and continuous backup and encryption.
So what do you say, folks, are you ready for a new My Passport Studio external HDD with E-label support in your life?
