Apple iPad Encounters “Unspecified Production Problem”

iPad Shortage to Hit Later This Month; Only 300,000 Wi-Fi iPads to be Available?

We were not expecting this to happen but it looks like Apple won’t have enough iPads to go around at launch date. A recent report suggests that the company might only be able to count on 300,000 units at first which means all future iPad owners should be prepared for standing in line in order to get their tablet from Apple this March.

An “unspecified production problem” has been spotted and analyst Peter Misek with Canaccord Adams claims that said problem could determine Apple to postpone the launch by up to a month. But would Apple really do such a thing? After all Steve Jobs said the Wi-Fi version of the iPad will be available at the end of March and it will be really strange not to see Apple deliver on that promise.

So chances are that the Wi-Fi iPad will be harder to buy than initially expected. The production issue will affect most U.S. markets and we can also expect international markets to be hit by the shortage. In fact we might see Apple launch the iPad in the USA alone and delay the launch for its international customers. Apple apparently expected to have around 1 million iPad units available at launch and 300,000 will surely not be enough to meet demand.

The analyst suggested that Apple will sell around 1.2 million iPad units in its 2010 fiscal year and 3.5 million iPads in its 2011 fiscal year.

Naturally we’ll be waiting for Apple to confirm in any way these speculations. And we’re also waiting for Apple to announce pricing details for various countries in which the Wi-Fi iPad should arrive at the end of March. After all we’re not going to take the words of any analyst over Apple’s so don’t despair just yet, folks! Your Apple is on its way and if you waited so much time for it, you’ll certainly manage to wait a couple of extra weeks in case there will indeed be an iPad shortage.
