10 Billionth iTunes Song Gets Downloaded; We Have a Winner [Apple’s 10 Billionth iTunes Song Download Contest Winner Thinks Steve Jobs’s Call Is a Prank Call]
Just a couple of weeks ago we told you how Apple was holding a special contest given that its iTunes download music service was getting close to the 10 billion downloads mark. The person that downloaded the 10 billionth song or submitted a special form after the 10 billionth song download was going to win a special $10,000 iTunes gift card.

And now, almost two weeks later, Apple has a winner. The 10 billion iTunes song has been downloaded which is an impressive number for Apple’s music service. iTunes has been around for just over nine years and it has already hit the 10 billion mark. That means that, on average, over 1 billion songs are downloaded each year which not something other similar services can brag with.
The lucky winner wasn’t apparently aware of the fact that he entered the competition. Louie Sulcer is the winner in question and when Apple’s CEO called to congratulate him, he believed it was all just another prank call. Here’s what he thought happened:
He called me and said, ‘This is Steve Jobs from Apple.’ I said, ‘Yeah right,’ ” Sulcer tells Rolling Stone. “I have a son that loves to play tricks and he does that every now and then – calls me and imitates somebody.” After three or four times of asking “Come on now, who is this,” Sulcer realized that his caller ID read simply “Apple,” and only then did he believe that he was the winner of the contest and a $10,000 iTunes card.
The winning song was Johnny Cash’s “Guess Things Happen That Way” and the song definitely fits perfectly with the whole moment. We can only congratulate Louie Sulcer and we’re sure he’s going to enjoy his $10,000 iTunes Gift Card. And he has quite the story to tell to his friends. After all it’s not every day that Steve Jobs calls your house to congratulate you!
