Intel Adding Three New Core i7 Processors [New i7 Processors Feature Six-Cores, 12MB of L3 Cache, Up To 3.6GHz Clockspeed]
Three new high-range processors for Intel will soon be on sale. All three will be in the Core i7 line of processors. Each of them will be based on Intel’s Nahelem architecture although a few of them will be based on the 32nm manufacturing process.

The first new chip is the Core i7 930, which is starting to show up in European eRetailer websites. It’s from the Nahelem architecture, probably either a Lynnfield or Bloomfield based chip. It will be a quad-core chip that will be clocked at 2.88GHz, with Turbo Boost bringing that to 3.06GHz. It will run in the LGA 1366 socket and has 8MB of L3 cache.
The next new chip is the Core i7 980, which Intel is blessing with the “Extreme Edition” moniker. It will be based on the new 32nm Westmere chips, and will be the world’s first consumer desktop 6-core processor. We learned about this processor from an early listing on a German eRetailer’s website, so we’re at their mercy regarding information. They say that it will have a clockspeed of 3.6GHz through Turbo Boost, but don’t mention the regular clockspeed. At any rate, it’ll have a whopping 12MB of L3 cache, too.
The final new offering from Intel is another “Extreme” processor, but this one is destined for notebook computers. It’ll be dubbed the Core i7 940XM and will be from the 45nm Clarksfield line of processors. It will clock to 2.13GHz and will Turbo Boost up to 3.33GHz.
The Core i7 930 is now on sale for €255 ($347). The Core i7 980 Extreme will be out March 14th for €1,100 ($1,493). The Core i7 940XM Extreme will be out to notebook manufacturers sometime in Q3 2010.
