Habey BIS-6620 Mini PC [Nettop PC Is Fanless, Noiseless, Uses Atom Processor, 1080p Hardware Encoding]

The team at Habey USA has introduced a new mini-PC/nettop computer that is small, compact and quiet. They claim it’s also capable of 1080p video, unlike some Atom-powered devices, so we can imagine it being used as a home theater PC or some other similar solution.

For a processor, it’s using the Atom Z510, a Pine Trail chip, which was optimized by Intel for use in nettop and other stationary computers (vs. a portable netbook chip). The small computer will have 2GB of RAM, and room for a 1.8-inch hard drive or solid state drive. It’s running on the Intel US15W chipset, too, and the whole thing is supposed to draw less than 5W.

For operating systems, you can choose between Windows XP and Windows XP Embedded. Of course, you can install a Linux OS too, if you wish. The real attraction here for the BIS-6620 is the fact that it can do 1080p video, which is done via hardware, likely a Broadcomm HD chip on the chipset. Atom processors very (in)famously turn HD video into a slideshow, but Habey has been mum about how they’re doing it.

The Habey BIS-6620 could be a good budget Media Center PC, but unfortunately, it lacks a HDMI port. I don’t know if Habey couldn’t fit a HDMI port on the chipset, or if it was licensing issue, but that seems to defeat the purpose of 1080p HD output. It does have DVI out, which is pretty decent, though.

The Habey BIS-6620 is now shipping from Newegg for $300.
