Acer Calpella Slim Notebooks to Take on MacBook Air [Calpella-Based Ultraportables to Be 1" Thick, Debut Expected in Q2 2010]
Acer have officially expressed their disappointment regarding Intel’s CULV processor range that are supposedly delivering “inferior power” and have caused lower sales levels, which is why the company has now decided to work on a powerful new ultra-thin notebook range that would be able to take on Apple’s MacBook Air machines.

Dubbed Acer Calpella Slim, the new notebooks are coming as 13-, 14- and 15-inch models, are less than 1-inch thick at their narrowest point and should be available in the second quarter of 2010. If our sources are correct, the new Calpella Slim ultraportables are going to be Acer’s primary line in the future, which means that we’ll be seeing mainstream CPUs in ultra-thin designs in the second part of the year.
It makes sense to bring more power in a much thinner/lighter machine, but have you guys considered that the new Calpella Slim notebooks are going to be much more expensive than any ULV laptop on the market right now? Although there’s nothing official coming from Acer at the moment, knowing that the new Calpella machines will be using Core i5 and i7 ULV processors compatible with Intel’s Turbo Boost feature, we can say for sure it’s going to take on the MacBook Air, at least when it comes to how much they’ll cost.
