Pentax X90 Superzoom Officially Announced

12MP Pentax X90 Brings 26x Optical Zoom & 720p Video @ 30FPS

Pentax is not about to lose the superzoom war, and after seeing that Olympus have released the SP-800UZ and Nikon introduced the CoolPix P100, they decided to officially announce their new Pentax X90. Following on its first attempt into the ultra-zoom market (the X70), Pentax X90 does 26x optical zoom, features the same 12 megapixel 1/2.33-inch CCD sensor and has built-in image stabilization.

Coming with up to 6,400 ISO sensitivity, the new Pentax X90 is supposedly correcting all the noise issues with the previous X70 model, but the biggest attraction is still under the hood where it features a 26x optical zoom lens with a focal range of 26-676mm at f/2.8-5.0 and the company’s proprietary CCD-shift-type SR (Shake Reduction) system that promises your images will be in focus when zooming at  a max.

On top of that the Pentax X90 does 720p video recording at 30 frames per second, comes with a HDMI socket for audio/video signal output directly on your HDTV or HD monitor has a 2.7-inch 230,000 dot LCD screen with anti-reflection tech, 20 shooting modes, digital filters like Toy Camera and Retro, and is Eye-Fi ready.

Pentax is expected to debut the X90 this March for something close to $500.
