Pentax have announced their latest Optio compact camera in the form of the rugged Pentax Optio W90 which, thanks to its ability to withstand ‘the rigors of extreme use’ makes it an ideal point and shoot compact camera for the adventurous types amongst you.
Offering 12.1 megapixel resolution complete with 5x optical zoom, as well ad 720p HD video 30fps recording capabilities, the newly announced Pentax Optio W90 camera can purportedly withstand being submerged in water to depths of 20 feet as well as capable of shrugging off shocks (its drop-proof from heights of 4ft) and sub-freezing temperatures.
The Pentax Optio W90 which, interestingly features a Digital Microscope mode with LED lens lighting – which, in essence, boils down to being a 1cm Macro Mode – comes with a 2.7” 16:9 widescreen display, integrated HDMI port for viewing captured images and video clips directly on HDTV systems, Advanced Pixel Track Shake Reduction and just about evey other feature you’d expect a compact to feature such as Face Detection, Smile Capture, Blink Detection and yes, it comes with Pet Recognition too.
The Pentax Optio W90 is set to commence shipping from April and will set you back just shy of $330.

I’m really looking forward to grabbing one of these this summer. I owned a Pentax Optio W30, and it’s my favorite digital camera I’ve used to date. It broke awhile back, so I’m in need of a new one, the W90 looks like the route I’ll be taking.
