Yahoo Twitter Integration on the Cards

Yahoo Twitter Partnership Confirmed, Follows Yahoo Deal with Facebook

Following a similar deal with Facebook just a few months ago, Yahoo have now confirmed that they are partnering with Twitter in order to allow Yahoo users to Tweet directly from Yahoo sites as well as to facilitate showing a live stream of Tweets via its search engine pages and its email service.

“Let me try to capture the enormity of this integration in 140 characters or less: We’re turning the key to the online social universe – you will find the most personally relevant experiences through Yahoo!,” says a statement from Bryan Lamkin, senior vice president in Yahoo!’s consumer products group. “We’re also simplifying people’s lives by bringing their social worlds – and the world – together for easy access.”

Yahoo have so far shied away from making any particular comment concerning the financial side of the deal with Twitter but it’s been reported that similar deals between Microsoft and Twitter and Google and Twitter saw Twitter benefit to the tune of around $25 million in total so there’s little doubt that Yahoo have had to stump up pretty weighty sums to offer its users this level of Twitter integration.

“We believe that the content and context side of things is very unique,” Yahoo Vice President of Communities Jim Stoneham told Reuters in an interview and, if you use Yahoo’s services you’ll be able to gauge just how ‘unique’ Yahoo’s Twitter integration is as Yahoo confirmed that the service has now started rolling out across Yahoo’s search engine service – but we’re yet to see it in evidence this end.

Could these deals see the loss making Twitter actually pull a profit? Time will tell, but such lucrative deals can hardly hurt their balance sheets.
