Although Nokia’s N97 was a real success in terms of sales, it looks like the Finnish mobile manufacturer is not quite happy with the response they got from the consumers actually using the handset. In a recent interview with the folks from Mobile Industry review (duly credite below), Anssi Vanjoki, executive vice president of markets at Nokia, admitted that when it comes to user experience, Nokia N97 was a “tremendous disappointment” and “something that we didn’t anticipate.”

Learning from a senior Nokia exec that it can happen every now and then in a big company like theirs, is not quite encouraging, but seeing just how frank this guy is and we know for sure Nokia can’t afford losing trust which is why they’ve taken all safety measures to address quality control for their mobile phones.

It’s true that that their interpretation of the Symbian S60 OS on the N97 was definitely messed up at launch, but we’re hearing that the latest firmware update is said to have put the problems at rest now. “Now I can tell you that it’s over. Now we have software that is properly tested not only by our engineers and in our labs, but normal people out in the marketplace,” said Anssi Vanjoki in the interview.

In the end, no matter how good it may sound, it’s all about learning from your own mistakes, which Nokia says they did — “when Symbian 3 comes out, you can rest assured that it will be perfect.”

Kudos to Nokia for coming up with that in front of everyone. Here’s the full video!
