Neonode zForce Pad Multitouch Touchscreen Platform [zForce Pad Suited for Low-Cost Tablet PCs, MIDs & ‘iPad-Like’ Products]
The Swedish company Neonode, who are behind products such as the Neonode N2 and the zBook (a budget touchscreen eBook reader) have announced their new zForce Pad touchscreen platform which is aimed specifically at ‘companies who develop and sell touch screen based mobile internet and computer devices such as tablet-PCs and iPad-like products’.

The zForce Pad – a touchscreen reference design offering widescreen displays ranging in size from 5” to 13” – boasts 100% transparency, meaning that, unlike with capacitive or resistive touchscreens no overlay is required, aside from offering ultra-thin characteristics additionally fully supports mulittouch capabilities and also comes with an ambient light sensor allowing for self-adjestment of brightness based on ambient lighting conditions as well as reduced power consumption and, interestingly, the company states that their zForce Pad technology is already being employed in products presently in development in Asia (though as SlashGear points out, Neonode haven’t actually seen fit to name names).
“The market for this type of product is booming and the touch screen solution is destined to be a vital part of the success of this market. We developed the zForce Pad platform together with companies in the mobile internet and tablet PC device industry and we are confident that it will play an important role in the development of the market. The feed-back from the companies we presented zForce Pad to at the recently completed 3GSM World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Spain, was very encouraging,” said Thomas Eriksson, CEO of Neonode Technologies AB.
Of course, what with us very much being in the golden age of the touchscreen, any company that can act to deliver touchscreen technologies that drive down costs are potentiall not only going to reap pretty serious rewards but they are also, ultimately, doing us, the consumer, a favour in (potentially) helping OEM’s to offer touchscreen devices such as MIDs and eBook readers at increasingly competitive prices.
That said, we would have preferred it if Neonode could have offer us some insight as to exactly what products are in development using their zForce Pad technology (if only because we’re nosey like that).
So, come on Neonode, spill the beans.
