When we first reported on the Lenovo ThinkPad X100e last year, the purported specs had it running with an AMD processor and an ultraportable form factor, including a 11-inch screen. Now, straight from Lenovo, we’ve learned that the new computer will also come in a netbook variant.

The “original” ThinkPad X100e was said to come in a 11-inch screen, with a AMD Athlon MV-40 processor, 4GB of RAM and 500GB of storage, and it’ll weigh just 1.5kg. Some called it a netbook, but it was a touch bigger than the usual 10-inch market and also used a more powerful (but still CULV) processor.
Lenovo’s website for the computer has gone live, and we now see that it’ll be offered in a 10-inch more netbook-like variant. Why Lenovo isn’t giving this a new model name is beyond me, but I digress. The netbook variant will come with a 10-inch display, an Intel Atom N450 (Pine Trial) processor. It’ll have your choice of RAM and hard storage, but they’ll offer the option of up to 4GB or 320GB respectively.
They’ll be offering Intel integrated graphics and Windows 7 Starter Edition on the netbook-style ThinkPad X100e. As said above, it’s definitely a weird choice for them to include the same name for two different notebooks, specially since they don’t even use the same processor slot (Intel Atom vs. AMD Athlon).
Our original report on the ThinkPad X100e says it will be released sometime soon for an asking price of $500.
