5,000 iPhone Apps Get the Axe

So Will Yours Should It Present Any Form of Female Nudity; Porn Still Not Tolerated on the iPhone

If you like any kind of nudity on your iPhone then you will be unpleasantly surprised to see Apple ban no less than 5,000 apps from the App Store. That’s right, the famous App Store now has 5,000 less apps since they contain “sex-tinged content,” which goes to show how Cupertino feels about porn on their beloved handset.

That’s really a sudden and unexpected move which has surprised lots of developers and their customers. Those apps containing sexually suggestive materials have been banned and they might not return to the iPhone anytime soon.

It looks like Apple acted that abruptly following a series of complaints received from women and parents that “were upset with what their kids were able to see.” I am not advocating in favor of those apps, but I’ll say that no matter how much people will complain, Apple won’t be able to ban all that explicit content that will be available to iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users.

Even if the apps have been taken down from the official App Store they will probably be unofficially available for jailbroken devices. Furthermore the default mobile browser will always render porn-related content which is available online at all times. And that’s something Apple won’t be able to stop no matter how much some customers will complain.

Once again Apple goes to show that it can do whatever it pleases with one of its most important creations, the App Store without destroying its popularity. More and more people will use the useful resources in the App Store even if those sexy stupid useless apps showing barely dressed women are there or not.

So if you are a developer and you think that sex will sell your app you’d better think again. Steve Jobs & Co. will simply not let you take advantage of the App Store like that! Although Sports Illustrated and Playboy apps are still available in the App Store so maybe that’s the way to go if you want to display sexual content on the iPhone. Come up with a popular magazine first!
