Verizon Droid Eris to Get Android 2.1 Update [Word is Verizon Has Started to Get Android 2.1 on the Droid Eris]

I know how much you want that, so if you’re a Verizon user and have a HTC Droid Eris, you’re in luck as we’re hearing Big Red have begun distributing the new Android 2.1 for your smartphone. If we’re to believe a Droid Life report, quite a few users have noticed that their Droid Eris has got an over-the-air update to Android 2.1, while others said they got it through the HTC Sense UI.

We’re not yet sure if the reports are true, but if some of these Droid Eris users are not fooling around, it looks like the OTA software has caused quite some damage by erasing all the data on their phones — so it’s probably wise to hold off on upgrading just now, at least until HTC or Verizon come with something official.

“My IT guy recieved an update on his Eris today that seems to be 2.1 It did not go well either. It wiped all content including apps on his phone. Why are they send the eris updates before us? I google it and have not seen any other chatter about this,” one of the users said.

Meanwhile Motorola Droid users are frustrated that Android 2.1 is not at least rumored to make an official appearance on their mobiles, although we know fore sure that it’s being considered and that it should hit quite soon.
