Mozilla Firefox for Mobile Coming to Android Phones This Year? [Mozilla to Launch Firefox for Android; Windows Phone 7 (Windows Mobile 7) & MeeGo Versions to Follow?]
At the end of January we told you how Mozilla has announced the Firefox mobile version for Nokia’s Maemo platform and today we have more good news for you. It looks like Firefox for Android is coming by the end of 2010 and Mozilla is also considering launching mobile browsers for Windows Phone 7 and MeeGo devices.

According to Jay Sullivan, Mozilla’s vice president of mobiles, Firefox is definitely coming to Android phones:
It’s a modern OS, and it’s a great fit with us. It’s the type of platform that has a high affinity with the early adopter, and it’s seen a lot of uptake.
Mozilla has been waiting for the native development kit to come out before it was able to make a Firefox mobile version for Android. Now that the NDK is out, Fennec (are they still keeping the name?) for Android is scheduled to arrive by the end of the year.
In case you’re considering picking up a Windows Mobile 7 phone this Christmas and you’re already wondering about Mozilla support for Windows Phone 7 then you might be in luck. It looks like Mozilla is rethinking its strategy for Windows Mobile. Its current Alpha built was targeting Windows Mobile 6.5 but that could soon change since Windows Phone 7 is definitely going to be a lot more popular than its predecessor.
Since Mozilla is already collaborating with Nokia and Intel the company is also considering making a MeeGo version of its Firefox-based mobile browser. In case you forgot, MeeGo is the new platform that emerged from Nokia’s Maemo and Intel’s Moblin joint endeavor announced at MWC 2010. But we don’t really have any MeeGo handsets yet.
So there you have it, folks, now you have some idea regarding Mozilla’s mobile plans for 2010. Which smartphone platform are you more likely to choose this year? What mobile browser would you rather use?
