Intel Preparing Four New Low-End Processors

New Core i3, i5 Processors Coming Later This Year]

News hit the internet on Tuesday that covered some of Intel’s plans for some new additions to the low-end of the product line later this year. Intel will release four new processors this year, two in the Core i5 line and two in the Core i3 line.

In the Core i5 line, Intel will continue releasing chips from the Arrandale architecture. Sometime in Q1 of this year, the i5-520UM will be released. As you can guess by the UM postfix, it’ll be another ultra-low voltage processor and will have a TDP of 18W. Fudzilla reports that it’ll be clocked at 1.06GHz with Turbo Boost bringing it up to 1.8GHz.

The next new chip is the Core i5-540UM. It’ll be another low-voltage chip, again with a TDP of 18W. It’ll clock in at 1.2GHz and will reach 2.0GHz with Turbo Boost. With the low voltage and increased clockspeeds, you should expect these Core i5s to show up in some notebooks soon.

For the Core i3 side, Intel’s new chips are from the Clarkdale line of chips, which, technically, is close to the Arrandales being added in the Core i5 series. At any rate, the new i3-530 will have a clock speed of 2.93GHz, while the new i3-540 will have a clockspeed of 3.06GHz. Neither of these low-end processors will support Intel’s Turbo Boost technology, and both of them will come with a TDP of 95W.

Also coming to the Core i3 line is the faster Core i3-550. It’ll have a 3.2GHz processor, and like the other processors, won’t have a Turbo Boost option, and will have a steep TDP of 95W.

You can expect the new Core i5 processors in Q1 2010, while the new Core i3 processors are set to show up in Q2 2010.
