AIS Ultra Rugged Mobile PDA Revealed

Rugged PDA Meets Military Standards, Features 624MHz Processor, 3.7-inch Touchscreen, Windows

The folks at AIS are known for coming out with rugged and industrial gadgets. This time, they’re coming out with a new tough rugged PDA that features a ton of wireless connections and it can withstand almost anything you can throw at it.

The Rugged Mobile PDA meets MIL standards for temperature, and can operate within the ranges of -20C (-4F) to 60C (140F). It can take a five-foot drop and meets military standards for shock and vibration use. It also is fully IP67 compliant with being enclosed and protecting from rain, dust and other conditions. It can also withstand an EMP burst and the screen is sunlight readable.

As for the more tech side, it’s powered by a Marvell processor and runs at 624MHz. It features 256MB of RAM and will come standard with 256MB of flash storage, which can be upgraded to 1GB. The screen size measures in at 3.7-inches, which is the same size as the Nexus One, for comparison’s sake.

It’ll have WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity, and along with that, it’ll have GPRS, 3G and 3.5G cell internet connections. It will also come with a ton of common enterprise ports for add-ons like RFID and bar code readers.

Despite looking bulky, the whole thing weighs in at 1.6 pounds. It’ll come running either your choice of Windows CE 5 or Windows Mobile 6. Pricing and availability are unannounced – interested customers have to contact AIS for a quote.
