Sony Dash Adds Movies, TV Via Netflix

Sony Adds Value To Ho-Hum Internet Viewer With Netflix Streams

Last month at CES 2010, Sony revealed the Sony Dash personal internet viewer tablet to a relatively uninspired response.  Today, Sony announced that the Sony Dash Internet Tablet would be adding Netflix movie and TV streaming on the device’s 7-inch display to help round out its offering to consumers.

Tablets were all the rage at CES 2010, but there wasn’t much talk of Sony’s Dash tablet.  To be fair, the Sony Dash isn’t a tablet in the traditional sense, it is a widget-enabled internet viewer that plays back streams of content with touch screen control.  There’s no familiar browser or OS, just its own UI that delivers content via widgets.  Today, Sony dropped a big name to help make this 7-inch device a bit more attractive to consumers, adding Netflix TV and Movie streaming.  So this table top device intended for your desk or your night stand can now stream movies while you work, or before you retire to bed.

Will the addition of Netflix bring more buyers to the Sony Dash?  Quite possibly.  Yet for $199 and no real support for human input, this one-way internet device is likely not to be on your kid’s wish list for the next holiday season, nor your own.
