Motorola Milestone Announced by Telus for Canada [GSM Motorola Milestone aka Motorola Droid Coming to Telus Canada; Ready for AT&T Too]

The Motorola Droid is one of the most successful Android phones to have been sold to date. We’ve seen the HTC Desire officially unveiled today, a phone similar in specs and features to the Google Nexus One but it’s too early to tell if it will be more popular than the Droid. And Motorola’s hot smartphone is heading to Canada thanks to Telus, which has officially announced the handset today.

The Milestone has already been sold in other GSM markets so far and it basically has to offer the same specs and features the Droid has: 3.7-inch touchscreen display, 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and video recording, full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G+ connectivity, microSD support for up to 16GB memory cards and Android 2.0 running in the background. David Fuller, senior vice-president of Products and Services at Telus said about the Milestone:

The Motorola Milestone is quite a powerful Smartphone for Canadians looking for the smart fit to stay connected with their social network. Our focus on Smartphone leadership over the last few years means that we offer our customers a state-of-the-art smartphone line-up that helps them stay connected and entertained on-the-go. The Motorola Milestone is a great addition to our 3G+ smartphone selection.

In order to get the device you’ll have to pay $199.99 with a new three-year contract from Telus. If that seems like an awfully long time to be tied to a carrier then you can choose to pay $499.99 with a two-year contract, $549.99 with a one-year contract or $599.99 without a contract.

Although it might seem expensive, AT&T customers might want to pay the full price for a Milestone, unlock it and bring it over in the USA where they would be able to use it with AT&T’s network. That’s right, although it might be a while until we see any Droid version coming to AT&T, that doesn’t mean you can’t get your from Canada.

So let’s hear it from our Canadian readers, are you excited about the Milestone or are you waiting to see what other hot Android devices are coming your way this year?

I’m excited. I tried to get my hands on one on the way to work but they were not available this morning. It looks like they are available on the website but not in store. The sales person explained that they get shipments in every day so it could be in with one of them but he didn’t know for sure.
