AMD Launching Six-Core Processors [New Processors Coming in Q2 2010, Apart of Phenom II Series]

News has broke that AMD is planning to launch four new six-core processors. The reports says that some of them will share the same spec, but they’ll likely all have different clockspeeds and TDP outputs. They’ll all be apart of the Phenom II X6 line of processors.

Hardware site Fudzilla is reporting that their sources are saying that the top of the line six-core processor will be dubbed the Phenom II X6  1075T. It’ll have a TDP of 125W and they estimate it’ll have a clockspeed of 3GHz. They also had an unverified report that there could be a higher model with a 140W TDP and a yet unknown higher clockspeed.

From there, the next one down will be the Phenom II X6 1055T, and will come in 125W and 95W TDP variants. The lowest one will be the Phenom II X6 1035T, which’ll have a TDP of 95W. Unfortunately, we don’t know the exact clockspeeds for these models, but they’ll all roll down accordingly from the topline 1075T model.

Although Intel is the market leader in this space and is doing a great business, AMD hasn’t been doing too bad themselves. However, AMD has yet to recapture a lot of the mindshare in the enthusiast space from Intel, who’s Core i7 series is pretty dominant in the DIY computer building community right now.

These rumored AMD Phenom six-core processors could be an attempt by AMD to get some excitement around their product line. No word on a release date, expect them to be pricey, even for AMD processors.
