HTC Desire (aka Bravo) Breaks Cover, Debuts on Verizon? [Bravo Renamed As HTC Desire, Features 1GHz CPU & Runs Android 2.1]

Do any of you remember the HTC Bravo that was slated for a release on Orange? It looks like the folks from Modaco got the scoop ahead of an official release, and, if they’re to be believed, the Bravo will be renamed as the HTC Desire (funny how the Droid Eris was known as the Desire, too) and given the specs it has, a Verizon Wireless debut sometime soon is expected.

HTC Desire Bravo Verizon

Nothing else than a rumor for now, the new HTC Desire should come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that clocks at 1GHz, 512MB of RAM and 576 MB of ROM, runs Android 2.1 (Eclair), has a 5 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, and a rather large 3.7-inch AMOLED touch-sensitive display (480 X 800 WVGA pixels), along with GPS support, Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g) & A2DP Bluetooth 2.1.

With the 2010 MWC in full swing in Barcelona, wouldn’t it be nice to see the HTC Bravo/Desire official? Rumors have it that we could … tomorrow.

Wait, I’m confused. How do the specs suggest that the phone is going to Verizon?

The specs say the radio is 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE. That isn’t compatible with Verizon’s voice network, more like AT&T and T-Mobile.

Also says W-CDMA, which is NOT CDMA (Verizon)

This looks like a Japan/Asia/Europe phone.
Who knows what it will evolve into when or if it hits Verizon.
I really wish they would retain GSM quad-band capability on these things. HTC/Verizon seems to forget that a sizable group of people actually travel out of the US and want GSM compatibility. This is hard to understand especially when a device starts out life as GSM and then gets translated to CDMA. Seems it would be conceptually easy to retain the GSM as well. Verizon is still going to get you for monthly data/voice charge whether you’re in Russia all month or in Boston, so it’s not like they are going to lose money by allowing a GSM capable phone on their network. They already have BB and the HTC TP2 with world capability. But who wants a BB or a WinMo with Android 2.1/Sense on the street? They are milking Droid and Eris for everything they can before releasing Passion/Desire/etc.

Yep guys, you’re right. We had our doubts with the specs, but they did turn out to be true.
And yes blackdognorth, it does go to Europe, Asia & Australia from what I’m getting here …
