Acer Unveils New Android Phone [Acer Liquid E To Run Android 2.1, Features 5-megapixel Camera, 3.5-inch Display]

Acer took the opportunity of MWC to unveil their newest Android phone. It’s a follow up to their earlier ‘Liquid’ phone, dubbed ‘Liquid e’. It looks like it could be an inexpensive way to get into the Android world as it could be pushed a mid- or entry-level device.

Acer Liquid e smartphone

For a processor, the Acer Liquid e will carry a Qualcomm 8250 will clocks in at 768MHz. There for, it isn’t the hot 1GHz processor that we’ve seen more and more smartphones coming equipped with. The Liquid e will have 256MB of RAM and 512MB of flash storage. That can be further expanded by a microSD card slot.

It’ll sport a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus. No word on if it will have flash. The touchscreen measures in at 3.5-inches. Unfortunately, no OLED screen, but they’re probably trying to keep the cost down. It’ll also feature GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. It’ll run on GSM bands with Edge support. It doesn’t appear the device has 3G connectivity.

It’ll be running Android 2.1 and that means all of the great included Google Apps. It’ll be running Acer’s UI wrapper. It will support features like live wallpapers and the browser will have support for HTML5. Although we don’t have any pricing information, the slower processor and lack of 3G leads me to believe that this could be a lower-priced alternative into the Android market. No word on a release date, either.
