Samsung Working On Chrome OS Netbook [Chrome Netbook To Feature 2GB DDR2, 64GB HDD, 10-inch display]
The head of Samsung’s IT services division, Phil Newton, has revealed that Samsung Australia is preparing to produce a Google Chrome OS-based netbook computer. Newton was light on stats, but did say that the netbook will be similar to the Samsung N210 netbook, which features a 10-inch display.

Newton was light on specifics of the new device but did reveal that, along with the 10-inch display, it’ll have 2GB of RAM, WiFi and 3G connectivity, as well as 64GB of storage. The official story out of Australia has the storage medium as a hard drive, but 64GB is a bit small, even for a netbook, and it is a perfect number for a cheap SSD. Newton or one of the blogs somewhere could of been mistaken.
Newton told the Australia website Channel News that the Chrome OS-based netbook will be very similar to Samsung’s existing netbook, the Samsung N210. Newton didn’t expand on the processor, but Channel News speculates that it’ll be a new 1.5GHz Qualcomm ARM processor.
Unless Qualcomm and Samsung have a trick up their sleeve with a new dual- or quad-core ARM processor, I don’t see why Samsung would bother with straying from the tried and true Intel Atom line of processors, which are perfect for netbooks (expect for their little problem with Hulu).
No word on when we can expect this device, or even if it’ll ship outside of Australia. Newton did hint that this would be the beginning of a line of Chrome OS-based netbook products from Samsung.
