Project Pink Phones Revealed by the FCC; Coming at MWC 2010?
The Windows Phone 7 was confirmed by the Wall Street Journal yesterday and today we have more details about Microsoft’s upcoming mobile plans. Beside Windows Mobile 7 and the rumored Zune Phone Microsoft might announce its Project Pink phones soon.

In a filing found with the FCC, a Sharp-made phone is mentioned. The device in question looks pretty similar to the Turtle, a phone that was discovered a long while ago to be part of the upcoming Project Pink phones. Will Steve Ballmer officially present the Sharp phone, codenamed PB10ZU, at the MWC? Or will Microsoft announce the Project Pink Turtle phone only at the CTIA later this year?
The PB10ZU’s specs include dual-band CDMA, EVDO, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and it should offer Sidekick like features.
There’s one more model mentioned, the PB20ZU which could prove to be Pure, also a Project Pink phone unveiled last fall alongside the Turtle. While the PB10ZU has a weird square shape the PB20ZU should be a regular slider phone resembling the former Sidekick models which were also built by Sharp and Danger. Danger is now owned by Microsoft so it’s really not that difficult to jump to conclusions, is it?
Nevertheless Microsoft has not confirmed these phones at that time, even if they were rumored to be only featurephones ready to offer us Sidekick-like capabilities and not spectacular smartphones like, say, the Zune Phone.
Although there is a chance for Redmond to make the handsets official next week in Spain we can’t ignore the fact that the FCC filing’s details are to remain secret until March 29. That suggests that the CTIA conference in Las Vegas could be the place where Microsoft spills the beans on the Turtle and the Pure.
We’ll be waiting for more leaks to come in the following days. Someone simply has to reveal more details about Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 7-related mobile future!
