LaCie Rugged eSATA 500GB HDDs Start Selling

Rugged eSATA External Drives from LaCie Go Up to 90MB/

Looking for an external HDD that is fast enough and for which you don’t have to worry about when it gets accidentally dropped on the floor, LaCie has the exact thing as the company has just announced their new Rugged eSATA hard drives — the first on the market that feature the Power eSATA interface, that promise transfer speeds of up to 90MB/s.

Those who don’t have a Power eSATA port on their notebook or computer should rest assured that they can still use LaCie’s rugged drives as they are compatible with standard eSATA ports when the included USB power-sharing cable is connected, as long as transfer speeds are not a concern, that is.

“We are thrilled to integrate power eSATA technology into our best-selling Rugged mobile hard drive,” said Anne-Sophie Marchand, Consumer Product Manager. “This solution brings dazzling transfer speeds to customers on the go, while still ensuring compatibility with standard eSATA and USB 2.0 connectors.”

Other than being uber-fast, the new drives are made from the same unique scratch-resistant aluminum material that standard models use. The special design acts as an internal anti-shock absorber while the shock-resistant rubber bumper adds up to better protection for your data.

The new LaCie rugged eSATA drive is now available as a 500GB model and will cost you a good $159.99 to bring one home.
