JVC 4K2K To Cost You $15,000 [JVC Super Projector Costs Five-Digits, Features 4x Full HD Resolution]
JVC has shown off what has to be one of their most expensive offerings, ever. The JVC 4K2K D-ILA will be a professional-grade projector that will cost $15,000. JVC is aiming the device at planetariums, museums and simulators, as well as other enterprise applications. JVC has promised ‘unsurpassed high quality imaging’ for the five-digit projector.

The 4K2K is powered by dual 330W ultra-high-pressure mercury lamps (read: not eco-friendly) which provide a total of 5,000 lumens of brightness. The projector can be switched to a single-lamp mode, which will consumer less power and extend the operating life of the projector. Each lamp has a life of 1,500 hours, so theoretically, if you used one lamp all the time, you could squeeze 3,000 hours out of it. In its default dual-lamp mode, the 4K2K consumes 1.1kW of power.
JVC’s wire-grid optical engine provides a 10,000:1 native contrast ratio. The projector will bring you 10-megapixels of high-resolution imagery. It has four DVI ports on the back and you can actually have up to four separate WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) screens on the projected image at once. They’ve included an Ethernet port, and you can configure the projector via a web browser, similar to a wireless router, if you’re familiar with that. The maximum resolution on this bad boy is 4,096 x 2,400.
Without a lens, it weighs ‘only’ (as said in the press release) 50kg (or 110 pounds). It’s modular design lets you configure the projector in interesting ways. JVC even says that if you stack two projectors together, you can configure them for 3D use.
The 4K2K projector will be shipping in mid-March for the low, low price of $15,000.
