We already knew that the co-branded Garmin-Asus A50 Android smartphone (otherwise known as the nuvifone A50) is set to hit the Euro zone this summer but, for some curious reason – probably not unrelated to CTIA in March – both parties have been pretty shady when it comes to a US release but now a rumour hints that the Garmin-Asus A50 could be set to hit T-Mobile in the US from May.

We should stress that the rumour of a May release in the US is just that, a rumour (and a wholly unsubstantiated one at that) but we wouldn’t at all be surprised if it were to transpire to ring true, perhaps with an official announcement coming at CTIA.
For those that are unacquainted with the Garmin-Asus A50 the device, which purportedly runs Android 1.6, comes with a 3.5” 480×320 resolution capacitive touchscreen display with accelerometer (allowing the display to flip between portrait and landscape based on the phone’s orientation), a 3 megapixel camera supporting geo-tagging, 4GB RAM (which can be supplemented using mircoSD memory cards) and, of course, will come preloaded with Garmin turn by turn navigation software as well as all the usual Android applications such as Google Maps – and to that end it’ll ship with both a car mount and car-friendly power cable).
Certainly the Garmin-Asus A50 appears to be shaping up into a pretty desirable piece of kit that will doubtless be more than welcomes by those looking for handset offering turn by turn navigation from a company with an exceedingly well established and prove name in that particular area though it would appear that Google are also hatching plans of their own which could see Euro zone users gaining such features from Android handsets in general (of course if you’re US based you have that already – for more info on this see Google Maps Navigation Set for Europe [Google Turn by Turn Navigation Service To Extend to Euro Zone].
