Toshiba Satellite U500-1EX Notebook to Be a High-End Ultraportable [13.3" Toshiba U500-1EX Touchscreen Laptop Official, Specs & Prices Unveiled]
Right after learning that Toshiba has unveiled a rather powerful 14-inch Tecra M11 notebook for business users, we’re hearing that the company is tackling the multi-touch business, too, with the new Toshiba Satellite U500-1EX. A 13.3-inch machine, the touchscreen-equipped U500-1EX looks quite a lot like a netbook (weighing only 2.15kg), but given its specs that’s by far a high-end laptop to go with.

Powered by an Intel Core i3-330 processor that clocks at 2.13GHz and has a 3MB cache, the new Toshiba U500-1EX features a 13.3-inch TFT WXFA TruBrite display (1280 x 800 resolution), packs 4GB of RAM, has a 320GB hard drive and an HD videocam with face recognition software.
Other specs for the U500-1EX include an integrated graphics card (we can assume not much gaming on this Intel HM55 Express Chipset), Wi-Fi (b/g/n) and Bleutooth 2.1 connectivity, a DVD Super Multi drive, a 5-in-1 card reader, HDMI-out, two USB ports and an eSATA/USB port.
The new Toshiba U500-1EX notebook will run Windows 7 Home Premium and should begin selling for £649 in the UK (some $1,013 at today’s rate), soon. No word on when it will reach the other side of the Atlantic, but we’re quite sure it will be sometime early next month.
