We have just taken the rumored Nokia N98 with a grain of salt only to know hear that Nokia has decided to reveal some of its upcoming plans regarding its next major Symbian OS revision. Symbian v3 better known as Symbian^3 will arrive later this year, just as initially expected, so let’s see what Nokia had to say about its next mobile platform.

It looks like Symbian^3 will be unveiled during MWC, just as expected and we have some of the first details regarding this new OS. Symbian v3 will bring you much simpler user interface, 3 times the performance of previous Symbian version and multitouch with gesture support. That’s Symbian^3 and it’s all coming to MWC 2010.
The first phone to offer Symbian^3 is supposed to be the Nokia N8-00. Arriving this summer, the N8-00 will offer you a multitouch 3.5-inch display, 12-megapixel camera, HD video capture at 30 frames per second and HDMI support. The Ovi Store will get Video on Demand capabilities but we’re still waiting for more confirmation before we start jumping with joy.
Nokia will also rename its handset series. The company will have 5 important series: C, X, E, N and S and here’s what they stand for:
- C: lower end voice-based.
- X: focus on entertainment, music for a young target
- E: dedicated to business, solutions for e-mails
- N: High-end
- S: very upscale and limited editions
And from what people say some important C-series models are coming later this year. Here’s what we know so far about them:
- Nokia C5-00 – Basic business device with GPS. Expected June.
- Nokia C3-00 – A low-cost multitasking Symbian S40 Qwerty device that run emails in the background.
- Nokia C5-01 – QWERTY device that’s a direct competitor to Blackberry.
Nokia seems to be ready to reinvent itself and such a process is definitely welcomed. It will be interesting to see Symbian^3 in action especially with Windows Mobile 7 also coming this year.
