Motorola Droid Android 2.1 Update Coming This Week Unless It Doesn’t [Motorola Droid Not to Receive Android 2.1 this Week; Moto Says “Whoops…”]
Just earlier this week Motorola Droid users got really excited when they heard their favorite Android-running in the whole wide world will finally receive that much awaited Android 2.1 update. The Droid is currently the hottest Android phone out there and yes, Google, we’re counting the numbers of units actually sold to date.

But hold on to your hands Droid owners as your handset is about to get slapped by some bad and really unnecessary news. It looks like the Android 2.1 firmware update will not be available this week as initially rumored. It was all a human mistake according to a Motorola Droid forum admin:
Here are the official notes. The update has not yet been released.
Update: How embarrassing. Apparently we jumped the gun on these details…
And then he follows up with one more post in order to make everything clear:
Sorry if I wasn’t clear:
- The details posted here and on the support site were prematurely released for public view
- They have been removed from both places
Hope that clears up the confusion.
Are you confused? We’re not confused. We know that neither Motorola nor Verizon will want the hordes to get angry at them for not delivering Android 2.1 support. Even Google doesn’t want more bad publicity so Android 2.1 will be rolled out very soon.
But maybe Google wanted to talk more about the future of Android, firmware version 2.1 included at MWC 2010. Why go and spoil all the fun with an Android 2.1 release a week earlier than initially scheduled.
We’re not saying that the update is coming next week either. That would be nice but we need some confirmation first. And it looks like we should look elsewhere but Motorola. Who knows what they’ll say next to keep returning to the forum! At least we got wind of the future features of the Moto Droid so our waiting won’t be for nothing.
