Motorola CLIQ & HTC Hero Android 2.1 Update Confirmed [CLIQ Android 2.1 Upgrade For Hero & CLIQ To Drop in March]

Following on in the footsteps of the Motorola Droid and, of course, the Nexus One, its now been confirmed that the Motorola CLIQ and the HTC Hero will both gain upgrades to the Android 2.1 OS next month, with Motorola themselves specifically confirming the upgrade to the CLIQ’s OS.

Information at this juncture is pretty sparse, with the HTC Hero being set to gain Android 2.1 sometime in mid-March whilst the availability of the Motorola CLIQ update is rather less specific (but it is set for sometime in March, certainly, as confirmed by Motorola themselves).

What we do know, however, is that the HTC Hero will retain its Sense UI whilst packing in an additional widget known as Friend Stream which, as its title suggests, servers to aggregate updates from various social media services (the impact of Blur, perhaps?).

Unfortunately, at this stage, things appear to be rather hazy concerning quite when US the versions of the aforementioned phones will be seeing Android 2.1 being offered but at least the above indicates that the ball is, at the very least, rolling.
