AT&T to Launch GSM Palm Pre on May 10? [New webOS 1.4 Coming to Palm Pre & Pixi on February 15; AT&T GSM webOS Phones Hinted for Later this Year]
Although the Palm Pre and the Pixi aren’t exactly hot new phones they still manage to turn a few heads. While we wait for Palm to unveil a brand new webOS-powered device this year, we might see AT&T launch a GSM version of the Pre soon.

It’s too early to tell if everything will turn out to be true but it looks like the word around town is that AT&T will launch the Palm Pre at some point in May. An FCC filling describing a webOS phone, the O8F-CASG, coming on May 10, 2010 is what made everyone think AT&T is preparing for the Pre.
Both Sprint’s Palm Pre and Verizon’s Palm Pre Plus have the same FCC ID number, O8F-CASC so we must be surely looking at a GSM version of the device. Since the Pre’s internal codename is Castle then it’s even more obvious that CASC and CASG stand for Castle CDMA and Castle GSM. O8F is the code for Palm and thus we can translate in human words the FCC filling: Palm Pre will be launched on May 10.

Whether or not AT&T launches a Palm Pre in May we also happen to know that a new webOS update is in the works. A leaked screenshot of webOS 1.4 reveals a couple of improvements that the Pre and Pixi are supposed at some point later next week.
webOS 1.4 could hit on February 15 and it will bring you features like “Phonebook Transfer (import and export) video capability and edit, calendar enhancements and media enhancements.” That doesn’t sound that bad at all, folks, and video recording capabilities are definitely something you want your Pre to have.
MWC 2010 is going to open its doors to participants next week and that’s when the new webOS could be showcased. Will we also see a new Palm smartphone in the works? An old rumor saying that Sprint will get a new Palm phone this year is still fresh in my mind but something tells me MWC might not be the place to see it get launched.
