Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android Update Confirmed [Xperia X10 Post Release Android Upgrade from 1.6 to a ‘Newer Android Version’ Officially On the Cards]
What with us set to attend Sony Ericsson’s UK MWC event in London early next week – we’ll be offering live updates and hands on impressions of new SE handsets (including the X10) on TFTS whilst we’re there, incidentally – Sony Ericsson have now acted to confirm that their much anticipated Xperia X10 will indeed gain an upgrade to its Android 1.6 OS sometime after it hits retail, though at this juncture details remain rather hazy.

This news follows on from numerous reports that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is set to see its release delayed – something that our SE contact has not confirmed (officially the X10 is still on for a Q1 release) – but, as stated above, Sony Ericsson have opted not to offer any specific details in terms of when users should expect to see their Xperia X10 (post release) gain the stated Android OS update or exactly what version of the Android OS the update will offer with Sumit Malhotra, writing on Sony Ericsson’s official blog, that ‘there will be a software update for the X10 that will upgrade the complete Sony Ericsson User Experience Platform based on newer version of the Android OS.’
Admittedly, what with details concerning this upgrade being so sparse, it would be easy to pad with speculation but what we can glean from this announcement is that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will indeed be released with the Android 1.6 OS under the hood and will not, seemingly, be updated to a newer iteration of Android prior to hitting the streets (which will undoubtedly meet with some consternation from potential customers).
Needless to say, we will be looking to put more flesh on the bones when we meet with Sony Ericsson reps in person early next week and if we can gain any further insight we’ll naturally bring it to you asap.
