PS3 3D Firmware Update Expected Within Months [Sony Playstation 3 Confirmed to Get 3D Stereoscopic Games & Movies, 1TB HDD in the Works]

Last year we were all happy to learn that the Playstation 3 is going to get a 3D firmware upgrade that will make 3D games and movies possible on your gaming console. Two months later and we can now tell you that there’s official confirmation that Sony is actually considering it, with a release expected within months, along with Sony’s new 3D Bravia LCD lineup that is expected to be released this summer.

In an interview with John Koller, the director of hardware marketing for SCEA concerning the future of Sony’s PS3 console, our good friends from Pocket-Lint have found out that 3D is going to be big for the company in 2010. And that not only means 3D Bravia TV sets, but also a fully-fledged, stereoscopic 3D-capable Playstation console that is capable to handle 3D videos and movies (3D Blu-ray, too).

“The amazing thing about the PS3′s technology is that all PS3 units that exist in homes and markets will be able to play 3D stereoscopic games as well as 3D BD movies through separate firmware upgrades – something that other platforms are unable to do. We’ll be announcing actual game titles separately later, but we think that 3D stereoscopic gaming has a ton of potential, particularly in placing consumers within the actual experience. With 3D gaming and Motion Control technologies just around the corner, 2010 will show just how PlayStation is leading the innovation curve in the industry and that the PS3 truly does everything,” said John Koller.

Too bad the PS3 is not yet profitable for Sony (costs $18 more than you guys pay for it), because with 3D and a 1TB Playstation 3 in the works, the future sure looks bright for these guys.
