Google Maps Navigation Set for Europe [Google Turn by Turn Navigation Service To Extend to Euro Zone]

Owners of Android handsets based in the US, of course, already have Google’s turn by turn navigation service offered to them but, if you own an Android phone and you’re Europe based, you’ll know that Google’s navigation service has proven mightily elusive – but that appears set to change with Google reportedly now working with a company based in the Netherlands with view to bringing the feature to Android phone owners in the Euro zone.

At present details are decidedly sparse, with speculation concerning the Netherlands company presently working with Google possibly being Navteq (which is owned by Nokia and who have recently withdrawn from offering Android based services themselves – strengthening speculation) or AND – but, nothing’s been confirmed regarding exactly who Google are working with so we should stress that, yes, this is purely speculative.

Of course, should it transpire to be true that Google are indeed working to bring their Android based turn by turn navigation service to the Euro zone there’s little doubt that companies such as TomTom and Garmin would take a hit (from owners of Android handsets, anyhow, who would no longer need to opt for dedicated SatNav units)

The moment we have more news on this – whether to confirm or to refute the above – we will, of course, offer you an update but, in all honesty, there really is no reason why Google would decide to continue to stay clear of the European market (especially as Android based phones gain ever more in popularity).
