It’s definitely not every day that we get to look at a 600GB hard drive and I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I am saying that each and every one of us would love to get this 2.5-inch drive and place it inside our machines. Our storage problems would be over, wouldn’t they? Well unfortunately we might not afford the Savvio 10K.4 since it’s rather an enterprise solution than a personal hard drive.

The Savvio comes with double the capacity of “its near competitor” which is definitely impressive. Add to that a 2 million hours Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and you’ll have an extra reason for wanting it.

The drive is meant to “enable new levels of data density in external storage arrays” and comes with features like Protection Information for protection of data-in-flight, self-encrypting drive for data-at-rest and PowerChoice which will help you save power when the drive is idling.

Howard Shoobe, senior manager, Dell Storage Product Management said about the new hard drive:

Our customers face challenging storage needs requiring the most efficient use of space and power while maintaining the highest performance possible. The new 2.5-inch 10K-rpm 600GB capacity point allows a doubling of capacity within the same rack space of current 3.5-inch 15K 600GB drives while increasing overall system-level performance and decreasing power usage.

So if you happen to own a company that requires lots of data then your IT guys should definitely check this impressive storage solution. We don’t have pricing details for you at this point but don’t expect the 600GB beast to come that cheap. I’m sure it will take a while until you fill it with content so that MTBF I was talking about above is definitely most welcomed.
