WiLink 7.0 Does Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS & FM Radio on a Chip
Texas Instruments has made a brand new product official today, the WiLink 7.0 chip that comes with unusual, but very interesting, capabilities. The chip can do a lot more than many of its competitors. It will deliver Wi-Fi n, Bluetooth, GPS & FM radio as all these radios are neatly packed on a 65-nanometer chip.

That’s definitely good news for us since we’re expecting the new WiLink 7.0 chip to be used in our future smartphones and featurephones. The WiLink 7.0 is 30% cheaper than the alternative and it’s 50% smaller too. And in case you’ll want to see it in action you’ll be able to do so at the MWC 2010.
Haviv Ilan, vice president and general manager, wireless connectivity solutions at Texas Instrument said about the new chip:
As the first company to put the power of GPS, WLAN, Bluetooth and FM technologies on a single chip, we are excited to have solved some of the market’s most complex coexistence challenges. This type of innovation builds on our strong heritage in the wireless market and commitment to spearhead next-generation advancements. With its ability to support simultaneous use of all four radios, the WiLink 7.0 solution will truly revolutionize the way people interact with their devices and connect to the larger world.
The WiLink 7.0 solution is apparently sampling to “major OEMs today” and we expect those companies to employ this new technology in future handsets. It’s too early to say if any manufacturer will announce plans to use this new chip at MWC 2010 but the WiLink 7.0 is expected to enter the market by the end of the year.
That’s when we’ll be looking for slimmer, cheaper, smarter, faster smartphones capable to deliver an even better performance. That’s not too much to ask from the “major OEMs” is it?
