Panasonic's First 3DTV Gets Priced
If you were as excited as some of us were about Panasonic’s offering of 3DTVs that were shown off this year at CES, this little news update might give you pause. The Panasonic Viera TH-P54VT is the first to get official pricing from Panasonic, which comes to $5,900 after conversion from yen.

The Panasonic Viera 3DTVs are priced to sell roughly $800 more per unit than the top-of-the-line 2D TVs in the company’s lineup. While the 54-inch Panasonic Viera TH-P54VT will not be the base model 3DTV that Panasonic will push, the price of the smaller 50-inch model shouldn’t be too far off from this price. Will the early adopters that help drive new trends in tech accept the premium for these glasses-based 3DTV’s?
The Panasonic Viera TH-P54VT’s $5,900 price tag is likely out of reach for most of us. The quality of the unit, however, was oft celebrated at CES 2010. Gizmodo’s Mark Wilson considered the Panasonic 3DTV to be a close second to the LG prototype. With the update in price, the Panasonic 3DTV will beat that LG to the market, being one of the first 3DTVs in this quality range to be available to those early adopters. Is the $5,900 tag its achilles heel, or is this price justified?

$5,900 for a TV, what a joke, best of luck with that one Panasonic. For a company getting bad press at the moment for diminishing black levels in their plasma high end models, trying to get us to pay a hefty premium is an utter joke! Will be looking for a better priced 3d set than this, that is for sure!
