The Gesture Cube Concept Responds to Your Gestures
We haven’t even finished talking about the iPad, a revolutionary device that’s already remodeling the eBook business and we get to inspect an even more interesting device. The Gesture Cube in the picture here is definitely worth checking out. It’s not a portable device like the iPad but it could be very useful around the house.

The Gesture Cube is kind of like a 3D tablet. It has the shape of a cube and five of its faces can be activated and controlled by gestures. That’s right, you don’t have to touch it in order for it to respond to your commands. The device isn’t exactly your average home computer. It won’t have to offer as many features but it still is a pretty complicated computer-like device that is capable to offer you access to “music, web, your family and friends.”
The Gesture Cube comes equipped with IDENT’s GestIC technology on board. The electric field sensing wizardry will let you interact with the system. Your basic gestures will be transformed into commands and the device will answer immediately to them.
The video below shows you exactly why this device has to have this particular 3D cube design. In order to control it you have to make all sorts of hand gestures around it and the technology is smart enough to answer to your hands’ movements.
A device like the iPad, although it could get gestures controls at some point in the future, won’t be able to offer support for as many movements as it’s basically a flat surface that could handle only so many different gestures. The Gesture Cube on the other hand can properly adapt to various moves due to its interesting shape. The only drawback is, of course, the lack of a proper display but should this technology become available in stores we can only imagine that it will offer some kind of connectivity that would enable us to hook it up to a larger screen.
