S1Digital BDC 100-Disc Blu-Ray Changer Revealed

AV Gadget Holds 100 Blu-Ray Discs, Rips Them, Sends Them To Media Center PC

S1Digital is a small company that has been building media center PCs. They’ve recently added a new product to their lineup that has gotten our attention. The S1Digital BDC is a 100-disc Blu-Ray Disc Changer that holds and manages your Blu-Ray and DVD movies for you.

The BDC connects to a media center PC that’s either running Windows Vista or 7. Then, you load it up with up to 100 of your favorite optical disc-based movies, either Blu-Ray or DVD in this case, and it will catalog and keep them for you.

It will scan every movie stored inside of it, and then will download movie posters and information off of the web. Once you’ve got it fully loaded up, you can easily play any DVD or Blu-Ray stored in the device without having to fumble around with discs and cases.

S1Digital will be bundling “My Movies” software with the device, which will let you rip DVDs, Blu-Rays and CDs stored in the device to a hard drive or home server. Of course, the website quickly notes that this is only legal with non-commercial discs. It isn’t clear if the device will refuse to rip commercial discs.

The nice thing about the BDC and the My Movies software is that since Blu-Ray movies can have such a large file size, ripping them can take hours. With the BDC and it’s large capacity, you can go out to lunch and let it rip away without having to check in to change the discs.

Unfortunately, the BDC is coming in at a steep price of $1,500. While that’s now shipping, we wouldn’t mind seeing S1Didigtal release a smaller (perhaps 25 or 50 disc capacity), cheaper version of this great looking AV disc manager.
