Fujitsu LifeBook UH900 is Officially Shipping, Expensive

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH900 Is Now Shipping To The US For $849

Fujitsu has begun shipping their 5.6-inch LifeBook UH900 netbook to US customers.  This 5.6-inch multi-touch friendly Windows 7 netbook is available for the premium price of $849, a price tag that may actually (and surprisingly) be justified.

It’s likely that the most common adjectives used to describe netbooks are “small” and “cheap”.  While the Fujitsu LifeBook UH900 is certainly small with its 5.6-inch display, it certainly is not cheap.  The Fujitsu UH900 was originally priced at $999 at CES 2010, but it’s shipping today for the discounted price of $849.  Wait, $849 for a netbook?

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH900 is only a netbook in size, and with the Atom processor its packing.  Otherwise, the connectivity, storage and interface functionality for the UH900 is on the edge of mobile computing standards.  It features a 5.6-inch multi-touch display, 62GB of solid state storage, 2GB DDR2 RAM, GPS and Windows 7 powered by its 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530.  Multi-touch displays and solid state storage drives don’t come cheap, nor does an included GPS option.  Fitting all that in a device that measures 8.3″ and weighs just 1.1 pound– we can see why such a device would carry a premium price tag.

Would this TFTS writer buy it?  No, but then again I don’t have a need for an ultramobile device like this.  If I had to choose between this and the new Apple iPad (and I wasn’t concerned with sex appeal), the OS, storage and other standards of this device would be hard not to love.  Oh, and you can multi-task…
