Windows Mobile 7 Confirmed for MWC 2010 Unveiling

Microsoft WinMo 7 Launch Due Next Month Amidst Great Anticipation

Maybe Apple’s brand new iPad convinced the competition to hurry up and launch some of their latest creations. Such might be the case with Microsoft as the company is apparently getting ready for an official Windows Mobile 7 presentation at the MWC.

Steve Ballmer and Co. simply have to show Windows Mobile at MWC in order to survive in this complicated mobile business. Customers don’t want WinMo 6.5 and neither do manufacturers. Windows Mobile 6.5 is a temporary solution and Microsoft will lose the mobile battle to Apple and Google in case Windows Mobile 7 isn’t unveiled as soon as possible.

Although it was rumored to arrive only in 2011, Windows Mobile 7 has been confirmed during Microsoft’s conference call in which it presented its latest financial results.

CFO Peter Klein said that a Windows Mobile 7 dedicated event will take place in Barcelona in the weeks to come at the MWC. No actual details have been mentioned about said event but we expect Microsoft to show Windows Mobile 7 in February and make it available to customers only later this year.

Windows Mobile 7 should bring us a mobile revolution. Not only will we get a totally redesigned mobile OS capable to integrate multitouch, Zune media elements and social networking support but we will also witness a new generation of mobile devices specially crafted to run the new OS.

Windows Mobile lovers will have to ditch most of their current handsets as they will not be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 7. Microsoft has new hardware requirements for manufacturers and these include 1GHz processors, 800 x 480 touchscreen resolution, 3G, GPS and Wi-Fi. Upcoming Windows Mobile 7 phones should be similar to the HTC HD2 but a lot. It will be really interesting to see what Windows Mobile 7 smartphones will Samsung, LG, HTC and others throw at us this February.
