Google Nexus One Coming to AT&T?
Google is definitely redefining the way cell phones should be sold. The company is willing to sell you the unlocked device and it’s up to you to decide what carrier to go to for service. Unfortunately the current model only supports T-Mobile’s 3G so in case you want to use it with the other GMS carrier in the USA, AT&T, you’ll have to be happy with EDGE download speeds at best. On the other hand 3G support from T-Mobile is not that great for now so trying out AT&T’s network doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

Moreover it seems that Google is ready to sell a Nexus One with 3G support for AT&T’s spectrum. In fact it looks like the FCC is looking at such a Nexus One version as we speak. The device labeled with FCC ID NM899110 which is fairly similar to Google’s Nexus One ID, NM8999100,is said to support 3G on WCDMA Bands I, II, and V.
That means that a future Nexus One will be available to AT&T customers in the USA. Furthermore the customers of Canada’s top three carriers, Bell, Rogers and Telus, will be able to get the Nexus One. Even European customers will be able to order a Nexus One soon and use it in their own country with a GSM carrier of their choice. Now isn’t that convenient folks?

Apple’s iPad comes with a similar innovative selling solution. The device comes unlocked and will not require a contract to be activated. Apple will sell the device for the full price, just like Google does with the Nexus One and it’s up to us, the customers, to choose our carriers. While with the Nexus One we could select pretty much any carrier out there, the iPad will only use mini SIM cards which means that only certain 3G providers will be available to choose from for the tablet.
Nevertheless the fact that the Nexus One will come with support for AT&T’s 3G bands makes us wonder if a Verizon and Sprint version of the smartphone is going to appear soon. Will you get a Nexus One anytime soon?
