Eros/Wing MID Tablet Coming Out of China [Chinese Cloned 10-Inch MID/Tablet Runs Windows 7, Features Atom Processor]

A new product has come out of China’s Shenzhen region, a region (in)famous for coming out with cloned products that are remarkably similar to their Western counterparts (like this eReader). This new tablet will be called the “Eros” in English, but since that word doesn’t translate well into Chinese, it’ll be called the “Wing” tablet in its native language.

Eros Wing Shenzhen Tablet

The screen is a 10-inch resistive touchscreen that can do resolutions of 1366 x 768. Under the hood, it’s got an Intel Atom N270 processor (clocked at 1.6GHz), 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB HDD. It’ll be packing 2 USB ports, along with an SD card slot and a ‘network card’ slot, which probably means the old-school PC-card slots, as opposed to a 3G SIM card slot.

The device will ship with either Windows XP or 7, and will ship with handwriting recognition software. The battery life on this thing is a little weird – the company promises 2.5 hours with Windows XP and 1.5 hours under Windows 7. We’re impressed by their candidness, but couldn’t of killed them to put in a bigger battery? Perhaps put in a smaller hard drive.

When writing about new netbooks, I usually try to point out if the variant of the Atom processor it’s packing is from the Pine Trail family of chips, and here’s why. The main draw of the Pine Trail family isn’t improved processing power or cost – it’s that the Pine Trail chips consume less power than the other Atom chips. This Eros/Wing tablet would severely benefit from a Pine Trail chip, but alas.

It’s now shipping in China for a price that’s less than ¥3,000 ($440). If you’re not interested in that slightly more well known tablet that will be announced tomorrow, you can order it from your favorite tech importer.
